La Jana
The village of La Jana is located at the northern end of the Valencian Community, in the pre-coastal area of the interior of the Comarca del Maestrat.
The municipal borders of La Jana, with a length of about 20 square miles, spreads through a flatland surrounded by the watercourse of Cervera and small mountains of 400 and 500 metres high (Vilarets, Sant Pere, Coll Gros).
The farms of olive trees dominate almost all over the landscape. However, two ty pes of distinct farms can be found. On one hand, the ones that are in the plains, more extensive smallholdings, with a wide variety of olive trees of different ages, accompanied by a few carob trees, almond trees and fruit trees.
On the other hand, the small farms that are aligned by the most rugged mountains, where you will find olive trees of the Farga and Sevillenca varieties. Some of these farms are abandoned by the inability to work with modern machinery, but in the past, the increase in population and the need for food resources, led to the people of La Jana to construct large stone walls to parcel up the farms until the tops of the mountains.
