La Jana
The village of La Jana is located at the northern end of the Valencian Community, in the pre-coastal area of the interior of the Comarca del Maestrat.
Surely the Greeks were who introduced the olive trees in the Valencian coastline and pre-coastal area between the 7th and the 6th century B.C. But the Romans were who improved their crop, thanks to the construction of the Via Augusta (Roman road that crosses by the boundaries of La Jana). Many of the olive trees that Romans planted next to the Via Augusta have remained until our days. An example can be found in the area of the Roman settlement of Les Carrasques.
A few centuries later, with the Christian occupation, the charter of population was granted to La Jana, on 17th April 1237. In it, it was stipulated that the residents of Lleida introduced livestock and got the privilege of Lligallo and the right to trade fair. La Jana's livestock and agricultural show has continued until our days and is held every year on the last weekend of October.
